A_tistic is a theatre company based in Melbourne, Australia, creating multidisciplinary neurodiverse art and providing consultation and education.

Using our style of Spectrum Theatre, we aim to bring autistic lives, insights and experiences to the stage.

what we do

We write, direct and produce original works, primarily in theatre but with an ever expanding scope.

We consult with other creatives to help them improve their work involving neurodivergent characters and related themes.

We collaborate with artists and producers to help them put on relaxed performances of their work.

We run workshops aimed at a broad range of people and organisations, designed to offer insights, practical knowledge and broadening of perspective about life on the spectrum.

We also write about and comment on autism and neurodiversity.

What we’ve done so far

After staging the first run of Them Aspies at Monash University Student Theatre (MUST) in 2014, A_tistic officially became a theatre company in 2015. Since then, our productions have included a remount of Them Aspies at MUST in 2015; Pinocchio Restrung as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival in 2016; and Alexithymia (presented in collaboration with Citizen Theatre Co.), which was selected to open the Poppy Seed Theatre Festival in 2017. Our most recent production, Helping Hands, devised in collaboration with a majority-neurodivergent cast and crew, enjoyed a sold out debut season at La Mama in 2019.

A_tistic have presented workshops and talks to organisations including Drama Vic, Back To Back Theatre and Darebin Arts Centre. In 2018, we presented a workshop during The Deep Dive, part of The Arts Centre’s extended season program for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. We’ve also provided advice and consultation for individuals and organisations looking to ensure accurate and respectful portrayal of autism in their work.

In 2018, A_tistic began working with artists and producers to develop relaxed performances of their work. So far, we’ve worked with clients/collaborators including The Malthouse, Darebin Arts Centre and Melbourne Fringe Festival, as well as a range of local independent artists and companies.
