workshops

A_tistic have presented workshops and talks to organisations including Drama Vic, Back To Back Theatre and Darebin Arts Centre. In 2018, we presented a workshop during The Deep Dive, part of The Arts Centre’s extended season program for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Some of our team members also have experience running workshops on autism from a peer perspective for mental health and community support workers.

Our workshops are presented in a lively, accessible style influenced by our theatrical origins. We use theatre/improv exercises, Socratic dialogue techniques and plain explanation to illustrate our workshop content.

Our past workshops have included:

  • The “Purple Planet” workshop, which is designed to give participants a clearer understanding of the internal experience of autism

  • A detailed introduction to relaxed performance practice

  • Into the Neuroverse: A History of Neurodiversity

  • Neurodiversity in the Drama Classroom: Creating Autistic-Friendly Spaces

  • Performing to Strangers: Reading Neurodivergence in Pride and Prejudice (special presentation for AustenCon 2020, 2021)

We’re always adding to our repertoire, and we’re happy to design a new workshop tailored to the needs and interests of your organisation, or adapt one of our existing workshops.

consultation

A_tistic also provide advice and consultation for individuals and organisations looking to ensure accurate and respectful portrayals of autism in their work, or looking to make their theatrical practice more accessible for autistic artists, crew and audience members.

If you’re looking for this kind of consultation, we always recommend that you contact us early in your creative process, to ensure that best practices are built into your project from the start. But even if your project is well underway, we may still be able to assist!
